If Madonna calls I’m not here - so the Junior Vasquez story went way back in 1996 as the global superstar and the New York DJ infamously fell out over sampling issues. A rift became a riff as Vasquez turned a Madonna no show into a house hit with the lyric "actually if she calls, just disconnect her."

Fast-forward twelve years and more superstar DJs are at it - if a little more politely and artistically lead. Brighton’s Freemasons have let slip that they too have turned down the queen of pop as Hard Candy looked for a Freemason touch. But the boys were too busy to go all Madonna as Russell Small explained. "We turned down Madonna the other week, not because we wanted to but because of a time issue. We've got two more remixes to do and we've just co-produced a track for the Will Young album so we just didn't have time." Quality not quantity is a novel thing for in demand DJs but the Freemasons look like bucking the trend as they stay focused on the achievable. "We want to make an album at the end of the summer, so we're not taking on new material."
