Reading Pride 2008 : The Cabaret Tent...
review
The Cabaret tent was a hugely popular part of the afternoon's proceedings at King's Meadow Park - with a line-up of top talent keeping us all suitably amused. It was great to catch some cabaret circuit favourites, as well as enjoying some new talent as it graced the stage.
We set up camp here and caught most of the acts with the REALPride cameras... an afternoon of song, comedy - and even the odd bit of controversy as one of the acts had a drink thrown at him following a joke that wasn't! (see Reading Pride's statement regarding this below - it's great to see the organisation taking things like this so seriously).
Congratulations to the acts who worked so hard to provide what was undoubtedly the highlight of the day for many thousands of us who at one stage or another stopped by to enjoy the entertainment! And congrats, too, to all those behind-the-scenes people who made it all happen! We'll certainly be back for more!
'The Reading Pride Committee finds any form of discrimination and intolerance completely unacceptable. Our central aim is to celebrate diversity in the Thames Valley. We are fortunate to be part of a diverse population, which includes over 33,000 Polish people who live in the Reading area.
We were most perturbed to hear of the incident on Saturday, and offer our sincere apologies to any member of the community who may have been offended by what was said. Every act was informed of what they could and could not say prior to going on the stage. Unfortunately the act in question ignored these guidelines.
We will be examining our current procedures regarding the running of the Cabaret Tent and the Live Stage, and putting additional measures in place to ensure that no such incident ever occurs in the future.'
